How does Jesus’ teaching on non-retaliation apply to abuse? - Ask Us Anything

Jesus teaches us to not return evil for evil and to love our enemies. Some churches and Christian leaders, however, have twisted this truth to silence victims of abuse and to equate forgiveness with lack of accountability and Justice. How should we reconcile Jesus' teaching on loving our enemies with a desire for justice?
